Front Four

  • Sarah Clark

    Premier

    Sarah is currently working towards her Bachelor of Commerce in International Business Strategy, with a minor in Museum & Heritage Studies. She has been a member of AYP since 2019, holding various positions including the Government Whip, Minister of Finance, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the Opposition, and now Premier. During her time in the parliament, Sarah has been awarded the David C. Marriott Award and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Bursary. Outside of the parliament, Sarah works as a constituency assistant for the MLAs in Calgary-Peigan and Calgary-Lougheed, and teaches dance at two studios. Additionally, Sarah volunteers as a board member for two constituency associations and spent a year on the Minister’s Youth Council, helping to provide the Minister of Education with student perspectives. This year, Sarah was also accepted as a CJPAC Fellow, providing her the opportunity to go to Ottawa for a week and learn from various MPs and federal political figures. Sarah’s goal for the parliament is to continue to grow in size while maintaining the close relationships she feels with each member!

  • Kaydence Gillespie

    Leader of the Opposition

    Kaydence is currently an Honours high school student, expected to graduate in 2024. They have been a member of AYP since 2021 and have held various positions including a member of the Back Bench, Deputy Minister of Education, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, and now Deputy Premier. During the 103rd Winter Session, Kaydence received the Dr. Fred G. Holberton Bursary for their outstanding work within the parliament. Outside of AYP, Kaydence works with their school’s Debate Team and Model UN Team to teach youth the importance of debate and public speaking. Kaydence also volunteers in a variety of ways in their community, including at charity events, fundraisers, and community art projects. Kaydence’s goal while in the parliament is to contribute to the growth of the group and open more opportunities for youth in the community!

  • Meghan Downes

    Deputy Premier

    Meghan is currently a high school student, expected to graduate in 2024. She joined AYP in 2022 at the Winter Session as a member of the back bench, where she was then appointed as the Minister of Event Coordination. Outside of the parliament, Meghan is apart of Girl Guides of Canada, where not only is she a member, but she has further involved herself by joining Girl Guides of Canada as a Junior Leader, a member of the Alberta, Northwest Territories, and Yukon Youth Forum, a member of the National Youth Council, and the Premier of the Alberta Girls’ Parliament. Additionally, Meghan enjoys spending her time volunteering, playing volleyball, and giving back to the community. Meghan co-founded Cards of Kindness, a campaign that collects Christmas cards to take to seniors homes, helping to spread joy during the holiday season. Meghan also participated in the City of Calgary’s “She Governs” program, providing her the opportunity to learn about municipal politics and provide a youth perspective on current issues. Meghan’s goal while in AYP is to plan and host successful events that will help increase the size of the parliament while also providing youth with memories and friendships similar to the ones she gained at her first Winter Session!

  • Daniel Zander

    Deputy Leader of the Opposition

    Daniel is currently in high school and expected to graduate in 2025. This is his second year in AYP, after joining as a member of the Back Bench, then being appointed as Minister without Portfolio, and now being elected as Deputy Leader of the Opposition. In his time in AYP, Daniel has been awarded the Ted Beard Memorial Trophy and the Front Four Commendation Award. Outside the parliament, Daniel enjoys playing several sports including hockey, volleyball, and badminton. He is also involved with his local politicians, volunteering in their campaigns and giving youth a voice in politics. Daniel’s goal for AYP is to continue to develop its fun and expressive environment, where everyone is free to be who they are and develop relationships with one another!

Cabinet (Front Bench)

  • Mona Mohamed

    Minister of Internal Affairs

    Mona is currently a high school student, passionate about her studies. She is returning to the AYP Cabinet for her second year this year. Mona served as Minister without Portfolio last year, and is excited to now be appointed as Deputy Minister of External Affairs. Mona initially joined AYP as a way to explore more extra curriculars, but found that she has a passion for parliamentary affairs. Outside of the parliament, Mona is part of multiple clubs and teams at her school including Model UN, Volunteer Churchill, Drama Club, Black Student Union, Rugby, and the Music Student Network. Mona is passionate about music, playing the baritone saxophone in her school’s Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, as well as starting her own Vocal Performance Club. Mona is excited to work with everyone in AYP and is excited for the opportunities to come!

  • Eva Brown

    Deputy Minister of Event Coordination

    Eva is in school and expected to graduate in 2026. After graduation, they hope to attend the University of Alberta to receive their Bachelor of Education and become a teacher. Eva joined AYP in 2022 after hearing about it through the RMWB’s Youth Advisory Council and immediately wanting to join. After attending Session as a member of the Back Bench, Eva was invited to be a member of the Committee of Structure and Support. Outside of the parliament, Eva works at a heritage site as event staff and volunteers with their local Boys and Girls Club. Eva’s goal while in the parliament is to improve their public speaking skills and form relationships with youth across the province!

  • Dhriti Thiru

    Minister of Parliamentary Procedure (Provincial Secretary)

    Dhriti is currently a high school student expected to graduate in 2024. She joined AYP at the Winter Session in 2022 as a member of the Back Bench, where she was then appointed the Deputy Minister of Advisory & Consultation. Outside of the parliament, Dhriti is apart of multiple groups that provide a platform for youth perspective, including her school’s student council, her city’s Family and Community Support Services, and the Foothills Youth Advisory Committee. Dhriti also spends time volunteering at her local hospital with senior long-term care patients to help improve their time in hospital. In her free time, Dhriti loves to dance and play the piano. Dhriti’s goal while in AYP is to bring her experience to the parliament to teach others, while also learning from her fellow members!

Levels of Parliament

  • Front Four

    Elected annually by the youth, the Front Four are responsible for running the parliament and supporting the youth in their various projects.

  • Front Bench

    Appointed annually by the Front Four, the Front Bench members are each assigned a ministry that they will be responsible for throughout the year.

  • Back Bench

    As unappointed members, all youth who are new to the parliament become members of the Back Bench where they work in the committees.
